 The 5G wireless communication was successfully deployed on a commercial scale in Korea for the first time in the world. 5G means the 5th generation of mobile networks. It makes available to use 1Gbps (1000Mbps) in standstill and 100Mbps in the situation of speeding more than 60km/s which means 5G’s the capacity is 1,000 times higher and the speed is 200 times faster than 4G. But there is just one question. Even though people of today can use services such as streaming and downloading in 4G without discomfort, why is 5G indispensable? Telecommunication companies in Korea such as SKT, KT, and LGU+ are fighting in the race to corner the market in Virtual Reality (VR) based on 5G. People can use VR in 4G but there are some problems like lack of transmission speed and time delay. On the other hand, 5G’s speed is perfectly fitted for VR, so 5G is necessary to commercialize things like new holograms and Augmented Reality (AR). People can realistically watch sports, shows, or concerts with VR. Changing from 3G to 4G, the market of Over The Top Service (OTT) such as YouTube and Netflex has grown dramatically, so it isn’t impossible to have expectations about changes in 5G. 5G will give Internet of Things (IoT) wings. IoT makes it possible to connect between Internet and things by combining sensor and communication function with objects. Kim Hong-sik who is an analyst for Hana Financial Investment said, “5G’s superhigh frequency,

  Ultra-wideband network, and coverage network are optimized technologies in IoT and 5G is emerging as a core in the battle for IoT supremacy worldwide.” Especially low delay rate which is a 5G’s most important feature is necessary for IoT. They are aiming for 0.0001 seconds between the end and it is very short compared to the conventional delay time of 0.03 to 0.05 seconds. It can resolve the existing problems of networks such as disconnection and delays. Also, 5G makes it possible to apply technologies to hundreds of thousands of devices. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), more than millions of IoT services will be provided for the equipment in the range of one square kilometer. If 5G becomes a foundation of technologies like IoT and A.I, automation can be fully realized. Automatic product production and service operation would be possible with monitoring, controlling, and moving itself in real time according to the situations. With these technological innovations, cars are expected to evolve into self-driving cars. Producing information based on demand, supply and exchange will increase. As a result, smart mobility will be commercialized. Smart mobility is a means of transportation combined with cutting-edge charging and electric power technologies. Since the best way which is from door to door will be provided and autonomous driving sharing service will be expanded, personal vehicles will soon disappear. With many questions, 5G has reached the commercial stage. As 4G did, it may take some time for 5G. The future may seem far away right now, but it’s starting at this point. 5G is necessary for future advanced technologies. 

  According to the KCA(Korea Communications Agency), it expects to play a big role in the development of the domestic economy with about 135.12 trillion won worth of value and 960,000 new jobs will be created. We look forward to how 5G will be incorporated in high technologies.
