Notice about UOU Mentoring program in 2019 2nd semester. ⒸUniversity of Ulsan

Have you ever worried about self-development and major which are hard to study alone? To lessen the worries, University of Ulsan’s the Institute for Teaching and Learning Development manages the UOU Mentoring program. It helps student to approach difficult subjects easily with their mentors who aren’t professors. There are many programs for improving knowledge about majors and getting certifications such as Korean history, Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), and foreign languages. The Institute for Teaching and Learning Development opens programs if students who have qualifications submit applications to the center during a specific period. The programs are run for about 2 months after receiving the applications. Mentor and mentees make their classes together. They set the direction about their classes based on mentor’s plan at the orientation. They study 7 times and the classes reflect the needs of mentees. In the second semester of 2019, the Institute for Teaching and Learning Development opened 30 kinds of courses based on languages and majors. 30 mentors and 272 mentees studied together to achieve their goals. In order to be selected as mentor, students must be a junior or senior at the University of Ulsan and have more than a 4.0 GPA. If they want to open a TOEIC class, they must have more than a score of 800 and they need a certification which can prove their ability. If the qualifications are met, students can set a plan for class and register the Institute for Teaching and Learning Development (Room 40-B105). After each class, mentor must submit reports about their class. At the end of all the classes, the mentor also should submits program participation comment questionnaire. Mentors will receive 400,000 won for mentoring operations. Mentees can apply for whatever classes they want. If the number of students goes over some classes, the class will be divided. You can apply it for free. Students who participated are quite satisfied. From 2018 to firstsemester in 2019, firstsemester in 2019, the number of semester in 2019, the number of students has increased steadily. There are many advantages to participate in mentoring program. Mentors will learn the responsibility of caring about teammates. Mentees can learn their subjects in depth which cannot be done in common lectures. But there are some disappointing points. Some mentees said that the quality of classes might change depending on the mentors’ ability. Mentors also said that the absenteeism was the biggest problem which means that they could not precede with their class smoothly. Mentors and mentees can grow together through this program. Mentees can study continuously and supplement the unknown points. So, they can improve the efficiency of their studies. Also the synergy effect of mentoring program can be seen in terms of ratings. The Institute for Teaching and Learning Development will create many kinds of programs and improve the quality of programs.
