From May 27th to May 31st, the University of Ulsan’s English newspaper, The Munsu Journal, hosted its first event, titled ‘The Munsu Heart Making.’ Held at the International Hall, the event welcomed both domestic and international students.

‘The Munsu Heart Making’ event aimed to foster student communication and interaction. Participants were encouraged to write kind messages on Post-it notes and place them on a large heart-shaped board in the International Hall. The event planners from the Munsu Journal had a combination of worry and anticipation about the turnout, given that it was their inaugural event.

Contrary to their worries, the heart board was soon filled with heartfelt messages from both domestic and international students. Although there were some messages in Korean, most of the notes were written in English, reflecting the students' efforts to reach out to one another regardless of the language barrier. A particularly memorable note involved a vote asking a Chinese international student to choose between Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong, which drew votes from many students and added a cute touch to the event.

Some notable messages from domestic students included:

- “I hope you all enjoy your life; you only live once.”

- “I want to make foreign friends!”

- “I hope everything goes well with you! Luck will follow you as always :) Live the life you’ve dreamed of!”

- “Good luck on your final exam. Thank you for visiting Ulsan.”

These messages were warm and encouraging, often wishing happiness and success to the international students, while also expressing a desire to make friends with them. After the event, students were able to take their Post-It notes with them.

Although international student participation was lower, students like Gaby from Hong Kong, Khiem from Vietnamくゆち from Japan, and David from France also eagerly joined, sending warm greetings to their domestic peers. Notably, くゆ from Tokyo wrote his message in Korean, which attracted significant positive attention.

Through this event, it became clear that while there are few opportunities for domestic and international students to meet, they view each other with warm and welcoming eyes. The event concluded on a positive note, thanks to everyone’s kind contributions. It is hoped that the University of Ulsan will continue to foster more opportunities for communication between domestic and international students in the future.
